New Haven County Bar Association Volunteer OpportunitiesThe New Haven County Bar Association sponsors projects to benefit local charities and provides opportunities for members to volunteer for community service, many of which are coordinated by our Public Service Committee or in conjunction with our charitable partner organization, The Foundation of the New Haven County Bar.
Current service projects benefit The Diaper Bank, the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen, New Haven Reads, and LEAP, among other New Haven area charities. The NHCBA has also sponsored several public education seminars for New Haven area
youth and their families that focus on a wide-range of legal, political,
and education-related topics. For more information on current opportunities click the links below, contact Gillian Fattal, or call the NHCBA office at (203) 562-9652.
Modest Means Reduced Fee Referral Program
The NHCBA also sponsors a separate referral program for certain types of family law, landlord/tenant, unemployment compensation and minor criminal cases. There is a $25 referral fee to use this service. If the individual qualifies under our Financial Guidelines (assets no more than 250% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines), they would be referred to an attorney who has agreed to consult with clients and possibly take the case for a $60 an hour fee, which is lower than the usual hourly rate in this area. That fee includes a $500 retainer, which the client would need to provide up front.
To find out more, email Anne Herlihy or call our hotline at (203) 562-5750.
